Creating a distinctly Australian Christmas experience inside a heritage icon
The brief called for a Christmas installation that reflected The Strand Arcade’s premium retail position while respecting the character of its Victorian-era, heritage-listed architecture. The concept needed to feel refined, culturally resonant and visually memorable, without overwhelming the space.
The project also had to work within strict structural and weight-loading limitations, with minimal fixing points and careful consideration given to the arcade’s historic finishes, narrow walkways and multi-level voids.
A bespoke Australiana concept designed to complement the space, not compete with it
Visual Inspirations developed a sophisticated Christmas concept inspired by native flora, using sculptural eucalyptus branches, illuminated gum nuts, gum blossom flowers, native foliage and cascading light curtains to create a layered botanical canopy through the arcade.
Every decorative element was custom manufactured to balance delicacy with durability, while detailed engineering and certification supported a non-invasive installation approach tailored to the heritage environment.
